How To Be Happy
My name is Dr. Sarita Uhr. I am a Stanford-trained psychiatrist and author of 8 books and over 50 articles.
I have helped many people over my 23 years of private practice learn how to be happy and have a better quality of life.
When people come to see me they tell me they feel lonely, uptight, worried, angry, feel victimized, can’t get along with their spouse, overwhelmed, not “themselves”. Maybe they even drink too much or use drugs.
What do they all have in common? They are not happy. My job is to help them feel happier.
How to be happy: Do you want to learn how?
Most of us like to think of ourselves as rational beings that use facts and our cognitive skills to make decisions. The reality is that most of the decisions we make are based on our emotions. Emotions are what drive our behavior. Happiness tends to drive good behavior, good decisions, and good “life results”.
So what is happiness and why do we all want to feel happy?

I don’t know about you, but feeling happy sounds really good to me! I choose happiness!
Dr. Derek Cox the Director of Public Health in Scotland says, “If you are happy you are likely in the future to have less in the way of physical illness than those who are unhappy”
He went on to say that current research shows that feeling happy may be as important a predictor for your future health as quitting smoking. Andrew Steptoe, the British Heart Foundation Professor of Psychology at University College London says happier people have more protection against heart attack and stroke. A small Stanford study by Laura Carstensen, a life span developmental psychologist at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, also supported the premise that positive mood increases longevity.
