Positive Changes!
Are you a couch potato when it comes to changing your own life?
Do you complain a lot about the way things are, but are very slow to take action to change things?
This post is to help “jumpstart” you to make “positive changes”.
Does it seem so overwhelming sometimes that it is hard to know where to start?
Be proactive. This is how positive changes take place. Most people spend a lot of time THINKING about taking action. If you could just harness that energy spent wishing things were different into making it happen, your wishes would come true. Taking action is key to your personal development.
Here are 10 Tips To Make Positive Changes
1. Name your most important goal to take action on.
Maybe it is improving your marriage, changing your career path, losing weight, saving more money, learning how to manage stress better. Be specific with your goal setting.
2. Determine the WHY of this goal.
Do you want to feel more loved, more valued, more popular, more secure, more calm? In other words, why is this goal important to you? Is this YOUR goal or are you doing this to please someone else like a parent or spouse? (That never has a good outcome).
3. Connect emotionally with your goal.
Set aside 30 minutes and imagine what it will be like for you when you reach this goal.Imagine, if your goal is to have your own business, what the freedom will be like without a boss. Imagine getting along better with your spouse and looking forward to an evening together.
Connecting your emotions with your goal skyrockets your motivation to reach your goal. It is the core of successful goal setting.
4. Plan out the strategy to reach your goal
What steps do you need to take action on in order to make your goal a reality? If you want to lose weight, you need an exercise and nutrition plan. If you want to improve your marriage, you need to involve your mate in coming up with a plan that addresses both your needs.
5. Get rid of negative chatter that your goal is unattainable.
If your goal is truly important to you, then you will figure out a way to achieve it. It may take several years, but you can do it.
I have a friend that decided to be a doctor when he was in his 40′s. He had gotten divorced and had kids at home. He enrolled in medical school and is now in private practice! He is very happy he took this path. Was it easy? NO!
6. Be willing to work hard.
Do you want to take action? Accept that reaching any goal takes hard work. The “umph” needs to come from you. The easy route is to stay put, but that is usually not the happy route. The harder choice is the more rewarding one.
This rule I call- input/outpt.You get out what you put in. Say that as your new motto to keep forging ahead.
7. Give yourself homework.
Write out the specifics of what you want to accomplish everyday. Keep track of your progress. Have high, but not unrealistic expectations of yourself so you are always progressing toward your goal.
8. Brain-storm with friends and colleagues.
Run ideas by people you respect. I find that sharing my ideas stimulates my mind in a way that clarifies what direction I want to take. It is SO valuable. Consider getting a mentor.
9. Minimize distractions
It’s easy to get side-tracked, but that sabotages progress toward your goal. Put aside some time everyday to work on your goal. During that time, don’t check e-mail, don’t get on face book, don’t text, or talk on the phone. Stay focused!
10. Take care of yourself.
What this means is to get enough sleep, eat well, work-out, and have some balance with work and your personal life. If you suffer from depression, anxiety, addiction, or attention deficit disorder, you must address these as these disorders can be huge obstacles that stand in the way of you and your goals. You may need to seek professional help.
Taking care of you enhances your chance of success. Do it. you are worth it!
