Visualization in 5 Easy Steps for Stress Relief

Visualization…

Are you stressed? Every one I know these days could use some stress relief. Most of us lead hectic lives where we balance work, relationships, and raising kids. We rush, we drive in traffic, we get our kids to activities, we meet deadlines and the list goes on and on.

A very important part of stress relief is learning visualization. We have all heard of visualization, but how do you actually do it?

Here are 5 easy steps to get started with visualization:

#1 Sit in a comfortable and quiet place and close your eyes.

It is best to pick a room where you can be alone and not be interrupted. If you have the opportunity to be on the beach or in the woods, it is great place to easily get in touch with your senses. However, this is not necessary as you can take your imagination anywhere! A peaceful environment is an important part of meditation instruction.

#2 Create a simple gesture that you can use over and over that will be tied to this relaxation technique.

For example, you might touch 2 fingers together or put one hand over the other.

#3 Imagine a beautiful place where you have great memories.

For me it is always a beach in Southern California. Imagine how blue the water looks and how the sun dances on the water. As you wade in the ocean, imagine the waves gently washing over your feet (you get the idea). Listen to the slow rhythm of the ocean waves.

#4 Next engage your sense of touch and smell and taste.

Imagine how it feels as you dig your toes in the warm sand. Feel the breeze all around you. Can you taste the salt water on your tongue? Can you smell the coconut from your sunscreen?

#5 Now pay attention to your breath.

Breathe in slowly. As you breathe, put a hand on your abdomen and you will feel it press against your hand as you breathe out.As you breathe out, say a word that has meaning to you. This word is your mantra. Try different ones until you find one that sounds right to you. Say it inside your mind when you exhale.

Visualization will help your personal development.

Spend 15 minutes doing this visualization. It’s about relaxation; the ability to calm yourself for stress relief. This visualization technique will benefit your physical and your mental health in a profound way. It gives you the ability to calm yourself. If you are tense at work, do your physical gesture that signals relaxation and you should feel clamer. Always pay attention to your breathe.

Use visualization for stress relief and you will feel calmer and happier in your life.
